Morzine
Country: France
Region: Haute Savoie
Nearest Airport: Geneva

Resort description:Morzine is at the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area links France with Switzerland. From Morzine to Morgins! At only approximately 50 miles from Geneva, Morzine couldn’t be more accessible. Its popularity has increased dramatically over the past few years and has become a favourite resort of many.
Morzine is a vibrant Alpine town, steeped in tradition.Being more natural than many other purpose built french resorts it offers traditional wood and stone chalets ensuring that the village retains is character and Savoyard charm, with the centre being an atmospheric and pretty area to walk around.Even non-skiers should be happy to wander around the bustling streets, with plenty of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants to suit everyone. Popular with self-drive guests and families, Morzine is an excellent all-round resort offering great value and a warm welcome.
Being part of the huge Portes du Soleil area,Morzine links together up to 14 resorts over 650km of pistes. There is enough variety across the ski area for both the better skiers and snowboarders while the Pleney nursery slope is the perfect place to learn. There are many green, red, black and blue slopes to cater for everyone and many terrainparks to keep snowboarders happy. If your accommodation is away from the slopes, as is often the case, there is a decent and fairly efficient bus service that runs around the area.
Regular skiers or boarders would enjoy Nyon-Chamossiere area. Here there many blues and reds slope back to Morzine or around to Les Gets,or you can head for to the Pointe de Nyon, where you will find more of a test. From the top you can also ski across to Chamossiere, which is a mountain area with one chairlift, but an excellent black under the chair and a challenging red on the other side. In normally good snow conditions there are a nunber a of good off piste opportunities to check out. The Super Morzine lift is the main way upto Avoriaz but on its wide open pistes,it is also great place for beginners and intermediates to practice their turns on.In addition to the skiing and snowboarding activities, there are five snowparks which can keep you busy.
Once the pistes have closed for the day, there are over 40 bars and restaurants in Morzine Ski Resort, to enjoy,as well as a few nightclubs, so its a pretty lively apres ski and night scene for France. The Dixie Bar Irish Pub,Budda Bar,Coyote,Cavern Bar and Crepu help ensure the night passes with a buzz. Most of the action takes place on Taille de Mas du Pléney or Ibeza Street,(as we call it) a strip of restaurants, bars and cafés running between the Pléney lift and theTourist Office. For a more relaxed evening on comfy sofas the Tibeteb bar offers a good alternative.New bars and cafes have opened further down the road, towards the Dixie Bar, so it is now quite a trendy place to be seen at! If your accommodation is self catered there are many restaurants offering typical mountain food and Savoyard specials - for great fondue at a good price head to La Barrique, for pizzas LEtale and Le Clin dOeil are popular with English holidaymakers. For more traditional fare, head to Le Pique-Feu: a food shop by day, by night it serves the same produce in a lovely dining room behind the shop
Prices are reasonable in general too, compared to other resorts and its only 60 minutes from Geneva, which also makes it accessible by car from the UK and ideal for short breaks.Great choice too for catered chalets, which the area specialises in! Some great hotels too and some decent self catered apartments. One of our best recommendations for skiing in France,if in a mixed group. For the non skier there is snow mobiling, paragliding, ice skating and helicopter rides. We like Morzine as it ticks many boxes for a perfect resort, with a major one being that its quite a pretty town centre and a joy to walk around.
Morzine is also a popular destination for families with children and the town has invested a lot in providing a fun and exciting environment for families to enjoy their holidays. From its nurseries and childrens clubs, to the wide range of activities available in and around the resort, every aspect of your family ski holiday is covered.Check out the below if you have young children.
